Terms of Service

Effective November 2, 2026

1. About these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and 2534150 Alberta Inc., doing business as Know Your Ancestors ("we", "us", "our"), which operates My Generations Book at mygenerationsbook.com and app.mygenerationsbook.com. By ordering a book, redeeming a gift, or using the book app or the Tree Readiness check, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy.

You need to be an adult (the age of majority where you live) to place an order.

2. What you get

A My Generations Book is a personalized book of four, five or six generations of your family, made from your family tree. Each book includes:

• one printed copy, softcover or hardcover as you chose, with printing and shipping included to the countries listed on our shipping page;
• a downloadable PDF of your book;
• 12 months to edit your book and order your printed copy, starting from your purchase (for a gift, from when it's redeemed). After that, the editing link and print ordering close.

Your book reflects the information in your tree. Missing ancestors are left out, and the book doesn't do new genealogical research or verify facts.

3. Your tree and your content

Your family tree, photos, notes and other content you add stay yours. You give us a non-exclusive permission to store, copy, process and print that content as needed to make your book and copies, deliver them, and provide the service to you. This permission ends when your content is deleted, except for copies we must keep for legal or accounting reasons.

You confirm that:

• you have the right to use the tree and the photos you upload (including photos taken by others);
• you're comfortable including information about living relatives, and you'll remove anything they wouldn't want printed;
• your content isn't unlawful, abusive, or an infringement of someone else's rights.

We may decline to print a book that breaks these terms.

4. AI-written text

Life sketches and some chapter text are written with AI from the facts in your tree, along with general historical context. The AI is instructed not to invent details, and we run checks to catch errors, but mistakes are still possible. You can read and edit every page, and you approve your book before it's printed. We aren't responsible for errors that come from your tree, or for errors in the text that you approve for printing.

5. FamilySearch

If you sign in with FamilySearch, your use of FamilySearch is also subject to FamilySearch's own terms. Sharing your book's stories or photos back to FamilySearch requires agreeing to FamilySearch's Submission Agreement, and what you share is then governed by FamilySearch. My Generations Book is not made or endorsed by FamilySearch. FamilySearch is a trademark of Intellectual Reserve, Inc.

6. Prices and payment

• Prices are shown in US dollars, or Canadian dollars for visitors in Canada, and are charged in the currency shown at checkout.
• Payment is taken at checkout through our checkout and payment providers. Any applicable sales taxes are added at checkout.
• Shipping is included to the countries we serve. International recipients are responsible for any customs fees, duties or import taxes charged on delivery.
• Prices and offers can change, but a change never affects an order you've already paid for.

7. Changing your book

• You can upgrade to more generations or to a hardcover in Book settings by paying the difference at current prices.
• You can make your book smaller, or switch from hardcover to softcover, before it's printed, and we'll refund the difference (for a gift, to the person who bought it).
• Additional copies for family members and books for a parent are separate purchases at the prices shown when you order them.

8. Printing and delivery

• Books are printed on demand by our printing partner and shipped to the address you give when you send your book to print. Please check it carefully: we can't redirect a book that has shipped.
• Most books arrive within 1–4 weeks of being sent to print. Delivery times are estimates, not guarantees.
• If your book arrives damaged or with a printing defect, email us within 30 days of delivery with a photo, and we'll reprint it at no cost.

9. Refunds

Because every book is made just for you, we can't offer refunds after your book has been created, except as described in sections 7 and 8, or where the law requires. If something's wrong, please email us and we'll do our best to make it right.

10. Gifts

• A gift is a prepaid book for the size and cover type chosen when it was bought. It includes printing and shipping to the countries we serve.
• Gifts never expire and are fully refundable to the purchaser until they're redeemed.
• The recipient's 12 months start when they redeem it.
• If the recipient makes the book smaller, the difference is refunded to the purchaser.

11. Your private edit link

Your book is reached through a private link that we email you. Anyone with the link can view and edit your book, so keep it to yourself or share it only with people you trust. We're not responsible for changes made by someone you share it with.

12. Our content

The My Generations Book name, design, page layouts, charts, templates and software belong to us. Your printed book and PDF are for your personal, non-commercial use: share them with your family as you like, but please don't sell them or use our designs to make other products.

13. Other services

Tree Ready + Research, our professional genealogy research service, is purchased separately and described on its own page. The free Tree Readiness check is a guide to how complete your tree is, not a guarantee of how your book will turn out.

14. Limits of our responsibility

We work hard to make My Generations Book reliable, but the service is provided as it is, and we can't promise it will always be available or error-free. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability for any claim about an order is limited to the amount you paid for it. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be waived.

You agree to be responsible for, and to cover our costs from, claims arising from content you add to your book that you didn't have the right to use.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute will be handled by the courts of Alberta, unless the consumer protection laws where you live give you the right to bring it there.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We'll post the new version here with a new effective date. Changes don't apply to orders already placed.
